Remember Toyota's Super Bowl XLVII commercial, back in 2013? It depicted a completely unmodified Toyota Tundra towing the U.S. Space Shuttle Endeavour, baffling many truck drivers who know that the light-duty pickup's tow rating is only about 10,000 pounds.

The space shuttle? It weighs 292,000 pounds.

Ever since the early 2000's, the American manufacturing industry has been dwindling, to the chagrin of the middle class. It's simply cheaper, in today's global economy, to outsource labor elsewhere. Even the Detroit-based automakers that still assemble many of their models domestically are building them with parts manufactured abroad.
