Toyota went all out at SEMA this year. They unveiled a farewell tribute to the FJ Cruiser and showcased a new version of the Highlander SUV for the Specialty Equipment Market Association.
The model shown there was dubbed the 2014
SpongeBob Highlander. Toyota had some fun crafting the model around the famed Nickelodeon character Sponge Bob Square Pants. It proved to be a very interesting looking model.
It boasts an impressive 800-gallon aquarium tank. How might that even be possible? Toyota enlisted the help of Animal Planets Wayde King and Brett Raymer who both host a show called "Tanked". This jumps the number of television networks to two, with amazing results.
As for the placement of the giant, custom tank, it is situated behind the two front seats and spans down the length of the entire vehicle. Inside, the aquarium is filled with salt water so that is can successfully house 32 oceanic species inside, including: starfish, squirrelfish, Fiji, angel fish, clownfish and pilot fish.
The mechanics of the tank include a sophisticated UV filtration system and temperature regulation to keep the little creatures swim happily along.
Here at Charlie's Toyota, we may not have a SpongeBob SquarePants themed 2014 Toyota Highlander, but we do have the regular version which is pretty great in its own right. If you'd like to learn more about the model and take it for a test drive, we invite you to stop by and visit us at 451 Western Ave in Augusta, ME.
