In 1907, O'Leary Fender created a mesh barrier, attached it to the front of his Tin Lizzy and called it the "human catcher". The premise was simple: human walks in front of car, scoop up human, never stop driving.  Creative yet against current federal safety regulations so the idea never took off, the scooping left up to bulldozers and safety innovators given a few more decades to perfect their work. Flash forward to today and more specifically to Toyota's current model lineup, and what you have is a slew of safety features aimed to prevent and protect and those recognized for not only their ingenuity but effectiveness.

Recently, Toyota was awarded the highest of IIHS honor--not once but twelve times over! Twelve models were stamped with an IIHS Top Safety Pick rating, including such fan-favorites like the Toyota RAV4.

Make a commitment to safety a bit more advanced than a human catcher and get behind the wheel of  any one of our new Toyota models at Charlie's Toyota in Augusta, ME today.
