This morning, here at Charlie's Toyota, while researching topics for today's blog post, we came across a bit of exciting news we definitely did not see coming. During a press conference today, Toyota made the announcement that they will be establishing a new research and development company that will focus on the future of artificial intelligence. "Toyota Research Institute Inc." (TRI) will begin operations in January with the aim of "improving safety by continuously decreasing the likelihood that a car will be involved in an accident, and making driving accessible to everyone, regardless of ability."

An initial investment of $1 Billion will be used to set up a headquarters in Palo Alto, California, and another facility in Cambridge, Massachusetts. According to Toyota President, Akio Toyoda, "At Toyota, we do not pursue innovation simply because we can; we pursue it because we should. It is our responsibility to make life better for our customers, and society as a whole."
