And it's coming in late March 2017, if Toyota's March 13 press release has anything to say about it. And it did, in the form of some serious new perks to arouse palpable excitement in the sports car segment.
We can all imagine zooming around the areas of Augusta, Waterville, Gardiner and Winthrop, a 2017 Toyota 86's 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder DOHC engine shelling out a zippy 205 horsepower with 156 lb-ft of torque to keep the wind in our hair, rear-wheel drivetrain with paddle shifter-equipped 6-speed auto transmission giving us that solid road feel underfoot with the smoothness of Dynamic Rev Management. And 2017 86 knows how to deliver a road mix thanks to its 8-speaker Pioneer audio system, 6-way driver and 4-way front-passenger seats with integrated headrests and knee cushions keeping us comfortable as we ride. So let's turn a few heads: 17-inch twisted-spoke alloy wheels, front fender-mounted vortex generators and 86 badge, and chrome-tipped dual exhaust provide quite the aesthetic complement to 86'Ss aerodynamics-enhancing rear bumper lower diffuser.
But the new 2017 860 Special Edition takes the build to a whole new level, beginning with Halo White and exclusive Supernova Orange hue options with black body stripe contrast giving way to a unique aerodynamic underbody panel and rear spoiler, 17-inch alloy wheels and piercing LED fog lights to accent them. Moving inside, a 4.2-inch multi-information display offers G-force meter, stop watch, horsepower, torque curve, engine coolant and oil temperature and mpg information, making for an impressive sport-driving centerpiece girded by heated front seats in contrasting black leather with orange stitching. These cues extend to the leather-trimmed steering wheel, shift boot and parking brake lever, bespeaking performance. And 860 Special Edition offers some serious premium features in parallel, including the convenience of smart key with push-button start, touch-activated door unlock capability, and customizable cabin climate made possible by a dual-zone automatic control.
Each bodycolor's coming around later in March 2017 in a limited 860-vehicle minting, and we at Charlie's Toyota would love to see how they compare to the 2017 86 model here at our 451 Western Ave. showroom in Augusta, ME. Want to stop by and take it for a test drive? Be our guest, anytime!
