When Toyota unveiled its 2018 C-HR Coupe High-Rider, a work of "stunning style, driving dynamics and versatility," with curvy, "avant-garde" urban styling, "bold, outgoing" Distinctive Diamond frame and "modern, comfortable" MeZONE cabin showing off sports car influences, they called it a "shift in the CUV paradigm." Charlie's Toyota is inclined to agree. The specs scream something new is going on here.
2018 Toyota C-HR's handling was developed and tuned on the Nurburgring racing circuit. Its 0.34 drag coefficient, rear quarter panel canards, front and rear spats, streamlined rear lower bumper and stabilizing fins all but come out and say "aerodynamic." It could be C-HR's 60.6-inch front and rear tracks, matching the Toyota 86 sports car, that make the model. And standards like 18-inch alloy wheels, comfort-customizing dual-zone climate control, bucket seating nigh befitting a racer, and a crystal-clear 7-inch audio display surely make the CUV a standout. But it's the biggest standard offering of them all, Toyota's Standard Pre-Collision System with Active Braking – the automaker's Safety Sense P™ (TSS-P) system – that defines it: a suite of safety features to immerse one in the intelligent driving experience, and the only anticipated instance thereof in the segment.
TSS-P allows 2018 C-HR to detect and alert you to other cars as well as pedestrians, automatically applying brakes if needed, as well as assist in keeping you in-lane using small corrective steering inputs upon unintentional drift detection, adjust speed to help keep a safe pre-set distance from other vehicles traveling at lower speeds, and automatically switch between high beams and low beams in a variety of light conditions.
To see what else is under this beast's hood, we'll just have to stand by for April. But before it comes around, stop by and see us here in Augusta for a spin in a 2017 Toyota model to indulge your inner performance driver. We're looking forward to meeting you!
